Be Prepared
Sunday, November 8, 2009 at 4:16PM No, this is not going to be about the Boy Scouts. This post is about making the most of every opportunity when it comes to looking for the Newcomer that God is going to send through your doors!
It continues to be my experience through our own CR and emails from other CRs all over the U.S. that God is sending a wave of people who are looking for relief, rest, and redemption. In other words simply, people who are seeking a savior, who we know as Jesus. So it makes sense to follow 1 Peter 3:15 where Peter said;
“But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
So what is one way can we maximize our time that we “get to” be with the ones He is sending us? A simple but effective way to keep Celebrate Recovery in front of them during the week is with generic business cards. At our local CR, not everyone who serves or leads has their own cards so we print up cards with meeting times, church phone number, church name and of course Celebrate Recovery written in bold letters across the top.
After group when people are wanting phone numbers we say to the Newcomer, ”Hey, I want to give you my card and on the back I am going to write my cell number so you can call me this week when things get tough.” When a leader or CR participant, who has been regular part of the group, takes the time to write their number down so the Newcomer can “really” reach them, this means more than you can imagine.
I always love hearing good ideas of how you are getting the word out, so leave a comment or email me at mowen@wfrchurch.org .
Peace,
Mac
